April 2009

We don't often start by recommending a book, but this one is something special. Sunset on Kyalami is an account of racing at Kyalami in South Africa from 1961 to 1971. A second volume, 1972 - 1987, will be coming later this year.

Check out Sunset at Kyalami to buy it direct from the publisher. With airmail it was only $80. Now when is someone going to do a book on the Tasman series?

Two versions of the Dick Johnson RS500 Sierras Kit AUT021A will build any one of the 5 variants from Bathurst 1987/88 1989 to 1992 and AUT021 will build any of the 9 from Bathurst 1989 to 1982. All versions can be built to order.

Marsh Models are making all the Jaguar XJRs from Le Mans, starting with the 1964 group 44XJR5 released this month.

Recently we acquired some custom car kits from the States. These can be seen in the new Custom Cars page in For Sale.

Recent releases from Blue Box Models have proved to be rather innacurate. One model that was right-hand drive was made left-hand drive, and one was painted brown when it should have been dark red. I seem to remember Box Models making the same mistake many years ago.

Good news, especially for you kit builders. After a few years of making very limited built models, so limited you couldn't get them most of the time, BBR are making kits again. First to come this month is the Ferrari (what else) F430 Scuderia 2007.

A new range from UK Selfords Models. Simon Elford is based at Court Loge Farm along with Marsh and Formula Models. His first offerings are two Maserati Mistrals from 1967, the coupe and the spyder in various colours.

Shown here, test built of Jack Brabham's 1st world championship Cooper T51, release date 10 May, 2009, which is the anniversary of his first GP win at Monaco, 1959.
