This Months News

Over the Easter weekend we made the trip to the International Motoring Festival at Bathurst. Unfortunately for me it was a disappointing event; whilst I’m sure the racing was fine for the competitors, generally it was not for the spectators. If the organisers are to succeed with this meeting they need much better trade and competitor support. The trade area in the paddock was an embarrassment with only three stands, two selling T shirts and the third would have been better off at a car boot sale.

As for the Historic Bathurst cars there were only a few recognisably entrees and nothing like the grid that was assembled at Phillip Island in March, although this did provide the most entertaining racing as the car were well suited to this track, unlike the sports cars which appear to be well under geared for the long Bathurst straights and this race became rather a procession. The least said about the lunchtime entertainment the better as far as I’m concerned as all it was, was a bunch of loonies doing wheelies up and down the pit straight, hardly entertainment. After seeing the practice and qualifying on Fri/Sat for the Sunday’s 12 hour we decided not stay for the race.

Fortunately for us the weekend was saved by a deal with the National Motor Racing Museum situated at Mount Panorama. They will supply photo reference material for future models and in return we will donate one of each of our Aussie models for display in the museum. With the assistance of the museum we to make some previously unmade models.

On the way down from Bathurst to Sydney we visited Katoomba and in particular Catalina Park the site of the old race track. A sad sight as there is not of much left these day’s but it was nice to see the place before it’s gone totally.

We were hoping to offer some BMW 635CSi Bathurst cars soon but unfortunately the decals we had sourced for the 1985 car #21 are incorrect and we are checking out the others, so these may take sometime. We should have the decals for the RS1800 in the next few days and the complete transkit available before the next news letter. Meanwhile take a look at what has been released this month by visiting Our new releases for this month
